I’ll be out in Crestline Saturday morning at the Norma Livingston Ovarian Cancer Foundation Motherwalk 2008 painting. I’ll be there from 8:00 AM until the race is done. I’ll be painting faces and painting glitter tattoos for cash. In addition to the face painting and glitter tattoos, I’ll have Mike out with the airbrush painting airbrush tattoos too! Part of what we make will go directly to the foundation to help fund research on ovarian cancer.
The color for ovarian cancer awareness is teal. I have teal paint, teal glitter, and teal airbrush tattoo ink!

One of my grandmothers passed away from ovarian cancer in 1999. I have anecdotal stories that other aunts and great aunts may have also died from this. Unfortunately information about their passing away is over 40 years old, and people didn’t talk about that kind of cancer. So I know that due to family, I may be at risk for ovarian cancer. Please come out, see us, participate, and help raise some money for ovarian cancer research!

Art in the Parking Lot in the Crestwood Shopping Center was postponed. The person who was organizing it had moved while she was trying to put it together, so she decided to to postpone the event until she had the time to organize it right.

The Magic City Blues Society is holding their 14th annual Blues Fest September 2nd. We’ll be there from open at Noon until 8:00 PM with face painting, henna, and temporary tattoos! The airbrush tattoos will be there as well. Its going to be a great day, with wonderful music. The music schedule is on the Blues Fest website and the lineup is superb. Come on out!

The Alabama Butterbean Festival is tomorrow! We’ll be in Pinson bright and early, with the festival there from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM. There’s a BBQ competition, as well as an Elvis impersonator competition.  And I have new designs to play with.  Its going to be a fun day. Come say hello!

After I made the previous festival posting, I confirmed another date for a festival.

I’ll be at the Birmingham Farmers Market, for their Friends and Family Festival, this Saturday, August 25th, from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The Farmers Market is located at 344 Finley Avenue West, Birmingham, AL, 35204. I’ll be there with face paints, temporary tattoos, henna, and the airbrush temporary tattoos. Come out and see us, and get something good to eat!

There are a number of upcoming festival in the area that Painted Personalities will be painting at.

The Alabama Butterbean Festival is September 1st in Pinson, AL. The festival runs from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

The Magic City Blues Society will hold their annual Blues Fest September 2nd at Sloss Furnace in Birmingham, AL. This festival will open the gates at 11:00 AM and run through 8:00 PM.

The Barber Vintage Festival at the Barber Motorsports Park is October 20th & 21st. I’ll be inside the museum that weekend, so if you have the opportunity, come in! If nothing else, stop by the museum and see all 5 floors of motorcycles that they have on display there.

I’ll be painting faces, applying henna, and painting temporary tattoos at all three festivals. We’re also going to be doing airbrush temporary tattoos at the Blues Fest and the Art in the Parking Lot.

Come out and see us at Dog Daze in Trussville, on August 4th. I’ll be painting faces, and doing temporary tattoos for the attendees at the Church of the Holy Cross booth. I’ll be there from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM painting. It’ll be hot, but that doesn’t matter, I’ll still be there. I’ve got some new designs to play with and the day will be lots of fun.

I’ll be out at the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum on Saturday an Sunday July 21 and 22 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The Porsche 250 is this weekend! I’ll be offering face painting, henna, and temporary tattoos for folks there. If you come out to the race, stop in and say hello to me. Mike and I will be down in the atrium, at the food court.

We’re going to be painting at 2 different events this Saturday. Both are open to the public, so come out and see us at either one.

The first event is a church carnival at Old St Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Bessemer. It is from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. We’ll be offering face painting and hand painted temporary tattoos. There will be some picture taking with this carnival, and the church has also gotten some moonwalks for the kids to play in.

The next event is the the BBQ for the new rector at Church of the Holy Cross, Trussville. It starts at 4:00 PM, and goes until. I’ll be debuting the airbrush temporary tattoos. I’ve cut a custom stencil of the church’s cross to use on folks there, in addtion to the other tattoos stencils I have. In addtion to the face painting and temporary tattoos, there is also at least one moon walk scheduled to be set up. There’ll be lots of smoked BBQ, and the Band Drive South is going to play.

We’ve added airbrushing to the mix here at Painted Personalities! Now available for parties, picnics, events, and occasions.  Airbrushed temporary tattoos that will last for several days, or airbrush face painting are here.  The debut of the temprary tattoos are going to be at the BBQ for the new rector at Church of the Holy Cross, Trussville.

I’ll be painting at the Grand Opening of Whole Foods Market in Mountain Brook this Sunday, March 11th from 2:00-4:00PM. I’ll be set up to paint there. Roger Day is going to be performing there at the store, too. Come out and see us there on Sunday!

With the change to the new year, it’s time to look at the business and marketing plans and goals from last year. Time to take those goals and see how they may or may not have been met. Then to create goals for 2007.

I have taken a number of classes offered by the Central Alabama Women’s Business Center over the last several years. They helped to get my mind set on the fact that I could have and run my own business. The center and Edith Ingram have been a big help to me as I have made this trip into business. I had the opportunity to take the FastTrac New Venture class that helped me to evaluate the biz and start to work on a business plan. Other classes on marketing and advertising, money, and overviews on legal stuff have been helpful too.

My face and body art email lists, art classes, and conferences have been great, and they have added to my abilities this year. I plan to continue to take classes and attend conferences in 2007. I’ll be attending the Louisiana Living Arts Fantasy Festival March 15-18, 2007 and the Face and Body Art International Convention May 23-27, 2007. LAFFest and FABAIC are holding classes with fantastic instructors and I’m looking forward to learning more about painting from some of the masters, Mark Reid, Jackie Green, Pam Trent, Christopher Agostino, Natalie Simard, and so many more. Cory Conrad is teaching airbrushing class(es) at LAFFest and I’m going to make a concerted effort to add that to my repetoire to have an additional marketable skill for the product mix.

Henna was a profitable addition to the business last year. It helped with festivals, and there were times when henna appointments were the only thing between any money coming in for a month, or nothing. There are some really cool things you can do with henna and temporary tatto inks, or glitter tattoos!

I need to become more aggressive about marketing glitter tattoos to the Birmingham area. Most folks have no idea what a glitter tattoo is, or what it looks like. A glitter tattoo is a temporary tattoo made with medical adhesive and cosmetic glitters. It lasts for several days, but is easily removable with rubbing alcohol or with some scrubbing and warm/hot water and soap. Its fun glitz!

Well, it was a very slow weekend at the Barber Vintage Festival. Friday night before it started I broke a tooth, too. So the weekend was very interesting. My husband helps me out at festivals, and he drove his motorcycle to the festival both days. He parked beside the tent and was able to draw lots of attention to the Ural. Unfortunately the motorcycle attention didn’t translate into business. Saturday was chilly, but clear and sunny. But Saturday night it rained and the fields were muddy again. Then Sunday started out cloudy and not quite as chilly. It cleared up by 2:00 in the afternoon, but it was too late by then.

I have a few pictures from the weekend, but I need to upload them before I can show them off. I have a great new design that I know the guys like. And I tried several versions of a flame butterfly over the weekend. I need to play with it more, but its going to be a great design when its done.

I finally got in to see a dentist about my tooth on Tuesday, and got a trick for Halloween. I’m getting a root canal done first thing Halloween morning. So my halloween costume is going to be a dental patient!

This weekend is the Barber Vintage Festival, and I’ll be there painting faces, applying henna and painting temporary tattoos! If the weather is nice, I’ll be out with the vendors. If the weather isn’t nice, I’ll be inside the museum itself. Come see me on Saturday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or Sunday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
