Motherwalk 2008

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

I’ll be out in Crestline Saturday morning at the Norma Livingston Ovarian Cancer Foundation Motherwalk 2008 painting. I’ll be there from 8:00 AM until the race is done. I’ll be painting faces and painting glitter tattoos for cash. In addition to the face painting and glitter tattoos, I’ll have Mike out with the airbrush painting airbrush tattoos too! Part of what we make will go directly to the foundation to help fund research on ovarian cancer.
The color for ovarian cancer awareness is teal. I have teal paint, teal glitter, and teal airbrush tattoo ink!

One of my grandmothers passed away from ovarian cancer in 1999. I have anecdotal stories that other aunts and great aunts may have also died from this. Unfortunately information about their passing away is over 40 years old, and people didn’t talk about that kind of cancer. So I know that due to family, I may be at risk for ovarian cancer. Please come out, see us, participate, and help raise some money for ovarian cancer research!

Motherwalk today

Saturday, May 12th, 2007

Hey y’all. Sorry I’ve been MIA lately. But I painted today in Mountain Brook, at the Norma Livingston Ovarian Cancer Foundation’s Motherwalk. It is one of the Foundation’s fund raisers, and this was the fourth year of the event. Registration for the walk started at 8:00 AM and the walk started at 9:00 AM. I painted some face, did some teal glitter tattoos, and even did a henna sunflower. It was a very good day!

2006 Angel Tree

Sunday, December 17th, 2006

Today after church I stayed and helped to get the presents for our Angel Tree wrapped and organized. Our church has a wonderful tradition of helping folks out for Christmas and we were working for 5 families this year. We have teachers at area schools and are able to assist families at those schools.

Today was the day to bring back the presents that you had purchased. The organizers asked that the presents be brought back wrapped, with the angel tag attached to the outside of the gift. Any gifts that were returned unwrapped were wrapped and tagged. The gifts were sorted into the families and then cross checked against the master list for the family.

There was also food donated for each family. The donated food was sorted by type and then split amongst the families. The organizers are going to see about picking up some perishable food items for each family before the goodies are delivered Saturday.

There are still a few gifts that folks have not brought back yet. But the lion’s share of the work is finished and it was a good afternoon.

2006 Ride for Kids

Saturday, September 16th, 2006

My husband is going to participate in the Ride for Kids in Birmingham, AL tomorrow morning. This is a fundraiser for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, and a way to have the kids who suffer from the brain tumors out to enjoy the day. The ride organizers are very happy to him participate, since he has a sidecar for his bike.

Mike is riding his blue and silver 2006 Ural Troyka motorcycle with a sidecar. Its his new bike, and it is a lovely machine. The Ural is a Russian bike. Its lots of fun to ride in the side car and tool around town seeing all the grins and double takes of of other people. The child that will ride with Mike tomorrow will enjoy it thoroughly.

Mike took the afternoon today to clean and detail the bike, as well as top off all the fluids. He is set to head out at 6:30 AM tomorrow to go to the Pelham Civic Center. He has my helmet set out, along with the helmet intercom and spare batteries for it. The ride itself starts at 10:00 AM, and will finish around 11:15 at the Barber Motorsports Park. He is going to have a blast!
