Egg Hunts and Parties

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

The season is starting to pick up again. I painted at the Women of Helen in Motion’s Easter Egg Hunt first thing Saturday morning with Tara. Tara does makeup, and did the makeup for Clint’s movie. That’s how I met her. She is interested in learning face painting and was great to have join me there. She is going to be a very good face painter. She already has experience with other painting mediums.

Then later Saturday afternoon I had a Pirate birthday party to paint at. I had painted at his birthday party last year and when his Mom was showing him pictures from last year, he said that he really liked his party last year and wanted me to come back again! He had a pirate party. I took my pirate outfit and changed into it before the party. I have boots, a wonderful hat, a pirate shirt and vest/pseudo doublet. I found some great scarves with skulls and crossbones, which make fantastic head scarves for the pirate costume. Of course I painted the birthday boy as a pirate, complete with his own scarf, patch, handlebar moustache, beard stubble, and sword cut. There were several other pirate hands that I painted as well, along with princesses, a puppy, and two hello kitties! It was a very fun party for everyone!

Saturday April 7th we’ll be painting at the Birmingham Country Club’s Easter Egg Hunt! We may also be painting elsewhere at other egg hunts, it will depend on who contacts us before the weekend!

I had a great, but tiring weekend

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

It was a great weekend! First I worked the Coca Cola Game Day Tailgate at Auburn with Kristen and Chaundra from Starshine Faces and Annette from Clowns Care. We all painted lots of tiger paws and tigers. We only painted a few Georgia designs. I have no photos from the tailgate party, but the event manager had a camera and was taking snapshots of the different events. I need to do a websearch to see if any of those photos were published. Unfortunately Auburn lost the football game. But by the time the game was over, Annette and I were back in Birmingham.

Then I did the birthday party for the young boy. It was for his 5th birthday, and was a surprise for him. His birthday was actually 5 months ago, but his family moved on his birthday, and they had so many other conflicts with scheduling that it couldn’t be set up until this past Saturday. His birthday theme was Power Rangers, but none of the kids at the party asked to be one of the Power Rangers. But I had looked up the Power Rangers to see how the masks were shaped. Instead I did a fun fish face, a couple of wolves, a couple of clowns, a couple of dogs, and a swirly flowers design, and a couple of temporary tattoos on the adults. The pictures are still on my camera, so I’ll get them downloaded soon and post one or two.

Sunday morning I got up at 4AM and drove to Atlanta for Jackie Green’s class. It was so worth it. Jackie is a great and caring teacher, and very matter of fact about what we do. We create art, and should never apologise for it. I have several pages of notes, and we worked on some techniques as well. I hated to leave and not stay for the second half of the class on Monday, but work at home was calling me. So I left Atlanta at 9PM (central time) and drove home with a beautiful design on my face that Jackie painted. Pictures of some of the faces will be posted soon!

It’s now later and I’ve had a chance to download a few photos. Here are a couple of pics from the birthday party! The wolf: A wolf The flowers: Flower mask The rainbow butterfly: Rainnbow butterfly

Then from the class on Sunday: Jackie’s lovely mask on me: Blue mask And the group going out to get a bite to eat:class going to get a bite to eatAs you can see, it was a fun loving group there.

A mention on TV!?!

Tuesday, October 10th, 2006

Oh my. Painted Personalities got a mention on TV on Friday!

I found out about it after it took place. Remember how I said that I had written an editorial for the Birmingham Parent magazine? Evidently the Birmingham Parent’s editor has a standing spot on the local ABC’s affiliate on their noon Friday news. The magazine sends a copy of the current edition to the TV station and the station personnel chose what particular article or information from the magazine they want to focus on for the spot. This past Friday, they wanted to talk about Halloween makeup safety! The editor talked about the editorial I wrote and Painted Personalities too!

Of course, I didn’t find out about it until after the spot was on the air. So I’m trying to see if I can get a copy of it to see how it went. I think I have tracked down a copy of the show to see. Hopefully I’ll see it soon.

Painting Saturday morning at the Southern Women’s Show

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

I’ll be painting bright and early this Saturday morning at the BJCC in the Southern Women’s Show. From 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Painted Personalities will be at the Birmingham Parent Magazine babies and kids corner. It is near the escalators, in booth spaces 1101-1103. I’ve been talking with my contact from Birmingham Parent and they are going to have lots of fun activities for parents and children all through out the show. They will be there Thursday through Sunday. Come see me Saturday morning!

Hello world o’blogs!

Thursday, September 14th, 2006

Hi, welcome to my new blog! I’m excited to get a blog set up on my website. It isn’t pretty yet, but it is a start! The next event that Painted Personalities is entertaining at is a birthday party this weekend.

Artwalk was fun last weekend. If you came out to the kidszone and saw some of the faces there, you saw my work. I do hope you enjoyed it. Thank you to all the parents and kids who waited so patiently to be painted! And thank you to Joy Myers and Jill for allowing Painted Personalities to be there in the kidszone. It was a fun day.

September is half over and October is filling up. I’ll be working with the Birmingham Jaycees on their Haunted House. It’s back in Lakeview on 29th Street South and should open up the first full weekend of October. It’s going to be a busy month!
